1. Vote this Friday
House leaders launched the process last
night to put the American Clean
Energy and Security Act to a vote this
Friday! See the attached letter
from conservation groups in support
of final passage of ACES, as well as a copy
of one specifically calling for support for the
bill because of the provisions
to safeguard natural resources. Amendment
opportunities will be limited, and we
won't know exactly what they are until
Thursday. The focus for the House this
week is simple: pass the
American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR
2454)
It is shaping up to be a close final
vote on the bill. We are in position
to win, but we have not yet been able to get
enough members to commit to support
the bill and a win is not guaranteed. We
need an all out effort to swing many
fence sitters that are still undecided, and
some who are leaning against this
legislation that we need to bring back from the
brink.
Our opponents, including an industry
coalition called the Industrial Energy
Consumers of America, are mobilizing in
force with advertisements and
phone calls using fabricated claims of how
much the bill will cost consumers.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget
Office released an analysis in the last
few days saying the impact would be just under
50 cents per day, not counting
the energy saving benefits from the bill's
significant energy saving
provisions.
We need your help!

2. TAKE ACTION: Call your Representative(s)
We need you to call your
member of Congress this
week! You can find your Members
of Congress contact info at www.house.gov,
or call the Capitol switchboard
to be transferred to your member:
202-224-3121. All you need to say is,
your
name, your city/town and "Please safeguard
natural resources; pass HR 2454,
America's Clean Energy and Security
Act."
If you are a statewide organization please
call all (or most) members of
your delegation; if your organization hasn't
taken a position on the bill,
please call yourself as a
constituent.
Quick story: I was in the
office of a Member of Congress from
Tennessee earlier today (6/23) together with
Tim Churchill from the Tennessee
Wildlife Resources Agency, we were talking
about the need to pass ACES in order
to safeguard natural resources. The staff
person we were meeting with said his
boss fully supported the natural resource
provisions and had no significant
concerns with the bill, but their office was
getting constantly called by
constituents opposing the bill and so the
Member was leaning against supporting
ACES. Calls work! We cannot
be out-organized by the interests that want
to keep us on the energy status quo.
Please make a call today, and ask 1 other
person to make a call too.
Again, you can call 202-224-3121, transfer
to your member's office and say,
"Please safeguard natural resources;
pass HR 2454, America's Clean Energy and
Security Act."
