WASHINGTON, DC (January 16,
2009) – President-elect Barack Obama visited
the Cardinal Fastener
& Specialty Co. in Bedford Heights, OH
today, a factory making nuts
and bolts that secure wind turbines and other
large construction
projects.
Larry Schweiger, president
and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation,
said today:
“We
need to dig ourselves out of our economic hole
with a green shovel,
with Cardinal Fastener just one example of the
vast potential of clean
energy, adding jobs as America’s demand for
renewable energy grows. If
we move quickly to repower America with clean
energy solutions, we can
solve our economic crisis and our climate
crisis at the same time,
creating millions of good, green jobs while
gradually cutting our
global warming pollution. President-elect
Barack Obama has shown the
kind of leadership we need by proposing smart
investments that will
protect our environment, restore our valuable
natural resources and set
us on the path to a clean energy
economy.
“An economic recovery
package is just the first step. Looking
forward, the most important
thing America can do in 2009 to galvanize
investment in clean energy
technology is to enact a cap-and-invest plan
that reduces global
warming pollution and grows clean energy
technologies that will
recharge our economy. The National Wildlife
Federation looks forward to
working with Congress and President-elect Obama
to make it happen.”
