Taking Action to Combat Climate Change

How to reduce personal energy use now:

  • Drive less, slow down, car pool more, and strive for fuel efficiency
  • Keep tires properly inflated
  • Replace regular light bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs
  • Replace old appliances with energy efficient models
  • Decrease home heating and cooling, maximize home insulation, retrofit when  possible
  • Lower the temperature setting on hot water heater; retrofit  with an “on demand” hot water heater
  • Recycle more
  • Use cloth bags for carrying groceries
  • Use biodegradable and compostable paper plates and carry-out containers
  • Plant trees everywhere you can
  • Turn off electronic devices when not in use
  • Build renewable energy sources into your new home
