AWF MISSION STATEMENT

AWF is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to educating, inspiring, and assisting individuals and organizations to value, conserve, enhance, manage, and protect wildlife and wildlife habitat.

The AWF is an all-volunteer, statewide association of people interested in the present and future well-being of Arizona’s wildlife, wildlife habitat and natural systems.

These conservationists believe our wildlife heritage should not be jeopardized by any activity that fails to ensure its long-term health and sustainability.

AWF Supports Sensible Travel Management Planning - Opposes HB 2551

After much deliberation, the Arizona Wildlife Federation has decided to oppose the so-called Striker Amendment to HB 2551.

AWF concerns about this legislation were highlighted in a letter to Arizona Legislators. Read the letter: Opposition to Striker Amendment to HB2551

"...With millions of acres of lands subject to these plans, tens of thousands of OHVs in operation and a very limited number of law enforcement personnel enforcing these TMPs, we cannot support any legislation, including the striker amendment version of HB2551 which is currently pending, that would reduce the ability to enforce these important, complex and sometimes controversial regulations...We look forward to working with you to improve the TMP process, remedy some of the problems on specific National Forests and find sensible solutions which balance recreational uses with the need to protect key fish and wildlife habitats..."

Environmental Day at the Legislature

AWF board members participated in the February 12th Environmental Day at the Legislature to underscore that our sportsmen-based conservation group brings a unique perspective to the environmental debate. This year the Environmental Day focused on the jobs and revenues created by protecting public lands, wildlife and other natural resources. Hunters and Anglers contribute significantly to Arizona’s economy with the latest Game & Fish statistics showing that $1.47 billion was contributed from hunters and anglers and $945 million from wildlife viewing (1.6 million total wildlife-related recreationists – 721,000 hunters/anglers and 1.3 million wildlife watchers.)
