Vermont’s chilly weather couldn’t keep over 200 state residents from rallying on the steps of the Vermont State House on Saturday, November 3rd.  They gathered to launch their voice for stronger leadership from Vermont’s governor, Jim Douglas, who vetoed a promising global warming bill that was passed by the state legislature during the previous session.  NWF and its state affiliate, the Vermont Natural Resources Council, partnered with the Vermont Alliance of Conservation Voters and VPIRG to organize the event as part of the national Step It Up 2 campaign.  Rally speakers included former Vermont Governor Phil Hoff, a staff member from Senator Bernie Sanders’s office, and Vermont residents who described what they wanted to see done to confront global warming.  Though their target audience was on the state level, rally participants also expressed a need for bolder leadership on all levels -- be it local, state or national.
