Release March 31, 2009
This week Congress is considering the President's budget proposal which includes revenue assumptions from a Cap-and-Trade program. This revenue assumption is in line with announcements from House and Senate leadership dedication to pass climate legislation this year.
But the budget process is complicated, and
the language that provides
revenue assumptions from Cap-And-Trade has
already come under attack from
opponents of climate legislation in the
Senate. Some amendments have already
been voted on, and many more are sure to
come. The budget will be wrapped
up before the Senate goes on
break this Friday, the April the 3rd.
It is critical that we maintain a steady drumbeat so that Senators all across the country know to preserve these Cap-and Trade revenue assumptions as a symbolic, yet extremely important move towards passing climate legislation in 2009.
