Funding opportunities are a vital component of the non-profit world.  One of our own NWF Regional Representatives, compiled this short list of current funding opportunities! 

 

It is important to note that there is a multifaceted local, regional, state, national and international funding opportunities not listed here.  However, with adequate research and time, you may find an opportunity that best suits your needs.  Good luck with your search for the perfect funding opportunity!

 

Grassroots Environmental Protection Campaigns Funded

The Conservation Alliance

The Conservation Alliance is a group of outdoor businesses whose

collective contributions support grassroots citizen-action groups and

their efforts to protect wild and natural areas in North America where

outdoor enthusiasts spend their time. Funded programs should focus

primarily on direct action to protect specific threatened wild places

and waterways. The Alliance is not looking for mainstream education or

scientific research projects, but rather for active campaigns. Before

applying for funding, an organization must first be nominated by one

of the Alliance's member companies

The next nomination deadline is November 1, 2008. The Alliance will

send each nominated organization a request for proposal (RFP)

including instructions for how to submit a full request. To review the

Funds for Wildlife and Habitat Protection

SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund

The mission of the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund is to

work with purpose and passion on behalf of wildlife and habitats

worldwide, encouraging sustainable solutions through support of

species research, animal rescue and rehabilitation, and conservation

education. The Fund provides grants in support of wildlife

conservation projects conducted by recognized nonprofit organizations

and noted scientists throughout the world. Grants generally range from

$5,000 to $25,000. The application deadline is December 1, 2008.

Requests must be submitted online through the website listed above.

 

 

International Preservation Efforts Supported

Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund

The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund was established to promote and

enable wildlife conservation through partnerships with scientists,

educators, and organizations committed to preserving earth's

biodiversity. The Fund supports programs and projects around the

world, including North America, Africa, Asia, South America, and

marine environments. (Applying organizations must have U.S. nonprofit

status; NGOs outside the U.S. can apply in partnership with a U.S.

organization.) Funded projects should clearly contribute to the

conservation of endangered or threatened species and their habitats.

Preference is given to projects that target particular wildlife

sustainability issues, including efforts to explore sustainable

aquaculture or address sustainable seafood (fisheries management), or

to control illegal wildlife trade. Invitations and instructions for

the next application cycle go out in November and the application

deadline is January 21, 2009. Visit the website listed above for

apply.

 

Grants Address Global Issues

The Rockefeller Foundation <http://www.rockfound.org/>

The Rockefeller Foundation works around the world to promote the

well-being of humanity by addressing the root causes of serious

problems. The Foundation attempts to harness the creative forces of

globalization, supporting breakthrough solutions to 21st century

challenges. The Foundation's initiatives are largely focused in a

small group of areas: global health, agricultural productivity,

innovation for development, and economic resilience and urban life.

Support is provided for high-impact ideas that have the potential to

make a difference in the lives of large numbers of poor or vulnerable

people. The Foundation requires that some results from such ideas be

measurable within three to five years. Inquiry forms outlining

innovative ideas are accepted at any time through the Foundation's

website.

 

Support for Bank Communities

Wells Fargo Charitable Contributions Program

Wells Fargo is committed to improving the bank's local communities in

23 states through grants and volunteer activities. The funding

priorities of the Wells Fargo Charitable Contributions Program vary

from state to state; however, the bank generally supports the

following areas of interest: community development, including housing,

job training, economic development, and programs for small businesses

and farms; education, including K-12 education with an emphasis on

math/science and financial literacy programs; human services,

including childcare, healthcare, and basic needs; and arts, culture,

and civic projects. Visit the website listed above and click on your

state in order to review the local funding guidelines and application

procedures.

 

Healthy Community Programs Funded

The Humana Foundation <http://www.humanafoundation.org/>

The Humana Foundation supports charitable activities that encourage

decisions promoting healthy lives and healthy communities in locations

where the company has a meaningful presence, with emphasis on

Louisville, KY. (A list of eligible communities is available on the

Foundation's website.) The Foundation focuses its funding priorities

on the interrelationship among: mind -- educational institutions that

promote academic achievement and improvement in education; body --

human service agencies engaged in the promotion of healthy bodies and

healthy lifestyles; and spirit -- civic and cultural development

organizations that seek to inspire communities and enliven the spirit.

Proposals from Louisville, KY organizations are accepted from November

1, 2008, through January 15, 2009. Proposals from organizations

located in other communities are accepted from November 1, 2008,

through June 15, 2009. Detailed application guidelines are available

on the Foundation's website.

 

 

Lexus Challenges Youth for the Environment

The 2009 Lexus Eco Challenge, administered by Scholastic, has begun.

 

 

 Department of Agriculture: Solid Waste Management Grant

<http://www.usda.gov/rus/water/SWMG.htm>

This program seeks to reduce or eliminate pollution of water

resources in rural areas and improve planning and management of solid

waste sites in rural areas.
