Executive Director - The Association of Northwest Steelheaders

The Association of Northwest Steelheaders is seeking a dynamic Executive Director who has a deep commitment in making a positive contribution to the future of fish and sportfishing in the Pacific Northwest.  The Association of Northwest Steelheaders is a nonprofit conservation organization, made up of sixteen volunteer chapters, dedicated to enhancing and protecting fisheries and their habitats for today and the future.  The Association is the Oregon affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation, is located in the Portland suburb of Milwaukie, and currently has one full time staff person and a lobbyist on contract.  Download the job description in MS Word format.

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors, and is responsible for all aspects of managing the Association, including but not limited to:

  • Generating at least $100,000 in new public and private funding to grow the Association and its programs during year one
  • Working with the board to create strategic long term direction for the organization
  • Creating new conservation programs that address habitat, climate change, watershed health, and other critical needs of the Pacific Northwest’s coldwater fisheries
  • Proactively working with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, their commissioners, the National Wildlife Federation, and other organizations on conservation and fisheries issues
  • Promoting the Association’s mission through public appearances, the media, and other opportunities
  • Supervise, hire, and increase the staff

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

The successful candidate for Executive Director will have a consistent track record of:

  • Successful foundation and major donor fund raising for nonprofit organizations
  • Executive level management including staff supervision and budgetary responsibility
  • Collaborative leadership and team-building
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Grassroots organizing experience on conservation issues
  • Commitment to the Association and its Mission Statement
  • Knowledge of and passion for sportfishing/conservation issues is desirable

SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary will be dependent on experience.  The Association offers a benefits package that includes health coverage and paid vacation.
